BREAKING: US Military Strikes Yemeni Port Used by Iran-Backed Houthis
According to the U.S. Central Command and The Hill, U.S. forces attacked an essential oil port used by Houthi militants in western Yemen to stop their access to fuel and revenue.
American military forces targeted a major fuel port in western Yemen which supplies Houthi militants and this represents the first publicly disclosed airstrike on a similar facility since Washington began its military campaign against the group in March.
U.S. forces targeted and destroyed a fuel resource for Iran-backed Houthi terrorists to cut off their illegal income according to a statement by the U.S. Central Command after the attack. The U.S. Central Command directs American military activities throughout the Middle East.
Ras Isa port situated on Yemen’s Red Sea coast operates as a key oil terminal and serves as a vital center for the Houthis’ fuel supply network.
The purpose of these strikes was to undermine the Houthi group’s main economic power source.
The Trump administration initiated an air campaign against the Houthis on March 15 to protect civilian and military ships in the Red Sea which serves as one of the globe’s key maritime passages.
President Donald Trump promised to carry on with strikes against the Houthis while warning Tehran that Iran will face direct responsibility for any future attacks by the group.
The United States recently enhanced its military presence in the region. The United States has sent another carrier strike group to the Middle East together with strategic bombers and fighter aircraft supported by air defense systems.
Trump issued an executive order in late January to designate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization thereby increasing pressure on both the group and its regional supporters.
The White House first shared various details of the strikes but U.S. officials have since stopped giving updates on the operation. The U.S. government has kept the details about how often strikes occurred and their effectiveness against Houthi attacks under wraps.
