Trump’s Triumph: Houthis Surrender, End Attacks on Ships
By JV Charles, Senior Editor at JVPolitical.com
President Donald Trump declared at the oval office that the Iran-supported Houthi rebels in Yemen surrendered while promising to stop their continuous Red Sea attacks on international shipping.
The Trump administration achieved a pivotal foreign policy milestone through its display of strength and strategic determination that led to a complete victory.
The Houthi Threat: A Global Menace
The Houthis have maintained a campaign of terror against the world’s most vital maritime passage for more than twelve months by attacking commercial and military ships using drones and missiles and conducting naval operations.
Since November 2023 the Houthis have launched attacks on more than 100 merchant ships sinking two vessels and killing four sailors while claiming their actions represent support for Palestinians during the Gaza conflict.
Their military operations caused major disruptions in global trade networks which led to a 50% reduction in Suez Canal traffic and caused shipping costs to skyrocket while threatening global economic stability beyond the Middle East.
Iran’s support enabled the Houthis to operate advanced missiles and drones that cost just $2,000 but could disrupt trade routes worth billions of dollars.
Through their cost-effective piracy operations they transformed the Red Sea into a hazardous zone which forced commercial vessels to take longer routes around Africa resulting in shipment delays and worldwide price increases.
Trump’s Relentless Campaign
President Trump took decisive action against the “band of pirates” to protect global commerce from being held hostage.
President Trump directed a relentless military offensive named Operation Rough Rider which began in mid-March and included more than 200 attacks on Houthi targets during one day followed by weeks of continuous airstrikes.
The U.S. military deployed B-2 Spirit bombers alongside Navy warships and Air Force fighters to destroy Houthi leadership facilities and ammunition stores.
The USS Harry S. Truman and USS Carl Vinson spearheaded the offensive making sure that every Houthi threat received an adequate response.
Trump’s message was clear: If you stop attacking U.S. ships then we will cease our attacks against you.
The administration launched attacks on Houthi missile commanders and Iranian supporters to destroy their operational ability.
Trump announced in April that Houthi forces were drastically weakened because many of their fighters and leaders had been killed.
Trump made a major impact when he posted an intense drone strike video on Truth Social which displayed numerous Houthi fighters being destroyed by a precise missile hit.
The blunt taunt “Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis!” went viral when he wrote it and reached millions of viewers. The message resonated: America had returned to its former position and showed no interest in diplomatic games.
The Surrender: A Diplomatic Coup
On May 5, 2025, the Houthis buckled. In a surprising declaration they stated their desire to stop fighting and promised to halt all ship attacks.
Known for his negotiating acumen Trump gave his approval of their surrender while ending U.S. airstrikes and warning them about the repercussions of breaking their promise.
The capitulation has far-reaching effects beyond a simple military victory because it represents a seismic shift in geopolitics.
The Houthis’ sponsor Iran now confronts an enfeebled proxy and increasing demands for nuclear negotiations.
The Red Sea acts as the global shipping hub for 30% of container traffic and its reopening will deliver needed relief to stressed supply chains and consumers burdened by inflation.
Why This Matters
Trump’s victory highlights the inadequate strategies taken by his predecessors who relied on small-scale attacks and alliance measures such as Operation Prosperity Guardian.
The Biden administration allowed the Houthis to operate freely which led to massive trade losses while empowering Iran. Through overwhelming force and crystal-clear ultimatums Trump demonstrated that strength prevents chaos.
Yet, not everyone’s cheering. Steve Bannon and Thomas Massie among other Republicans protested against U.S. Red Sea patrols because they considered it an unnecessary conflict for America.
They’re missing the big picture: The protection of global trade routes represents a fundamental priority for U.S. interests and allowing Iran’s proxies to operate unrestricted leads to increased aggression.
Trump’s supporters are wildly enthusiastic as they continue to express their admiration for his “America First” approach on X.
What’s Next?
Although the Houthi surrender represents a significant victory the U.S. must maintain vigilance to ensure lasting success.
The United States needs to maintain continuous pressure because the Houthis have demonstrated resilience by recovering from setbacks since 2004.
The Houthis could return to strength if Yemen’s opposition remains divided without a comprehensive unification strategy.
Even though a leaked Signal message exposed their plans to a journalist Trump’s team displayed its capability for precise execution during critical moments.
Trump’s decisive leadership has secured a significant achievement that resonates across Yemen while the waters of the Red Sea remain peaceful for now.
His words conveyed that their adversaries have abandoned their willingness to fight. America’s strength makes even the toughest foes reconsider their actions.
