BREAKING: Easter Truce Broken: Ukraine and Russia Point Fingers

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged accusations regarding violations of a 30-hour “Easter truce” which the Russian president declared on Saturday.

More than 46 Russian attacks struck Ukraine’s front line since Sunday morning according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The BBC has yet to independently confirm the accuracy of the mentioned statistics.

According to state media sources Russia’s defence ministry reported successfully resisting Ukrainian assaults while accusing Kyiv of initiating hundreds of drone and shell attacks.

On Saturday, Putin said there would be an end to all hostilities from 16: The announced cessation of hostilities began at 16:00 BST on Saturday and continued until 22:00 BST which was midnight in Moscow on Sunday. Kyiv said it would also adhere.

Putin announced that military activities would stop during that time period.

Our expectation is that Ukraine will mirror our actions in this context. Our forces must stay prepared to confront any truce violations and enemy provocations together with their aggressive actions.

Zelensky explained Sunday Ukraine faced numerous attacks and drone launches while he described Putin’s truce announcement as a mere public relations exercise.

President Zelensky declared Vladimir Putin’s words to be meaningless while accusing the Kremlin of trying to produce an overall impression that there was a ceasefire taking place.

Residents of Donetsk who have lived under Russian control since 2014 showed the same skepticism towards Zelensky’s adherence to the ceasefire terms.

Vladimir who attended an Easter morning service in Donetsk observed Zelensky’s reactions very attentively. The ceasefire announcement contained no concrete details and consisted only of ambiguous remarks that failed to ensure we wouldn’t face bombardment.

On 24 February 2022 Russia initiated a comprehensive invasion of Ukraine. According to estimates, hundreds of thousands of people including most soldiers have been killed or injured throughout the conflict.

The United States has maintained direct conversations with Russia to bring the war to an end but has not been able to achieve significant advancements.

Moscow issued multiple conditions to respond to the full and unconditional ceasefire agreement between the US and Ukraine last month.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared on Friday that the United States will stop supporting this operation after a few weeks because it has other matters to address.

We must reach a rapid decision, which I mean in terms of days, to see if this plan is achievable.

If the situation won’t develop as planned we will proceed to focus on other matters.
